Guru Ram Das Ji founded the city of Amritsar where he started the construction of the Sikh's holiest shrine-the Golden Temple. He requested a Muslim saint to lay the foundation stone of the Golden Temple.

The temple is built in a way that it has four doors on every side which symbolises the idea that everyone is welcome regardless of what they follow.

As well as that when one enters the complex the level of the floor goes down so that one may show humility to the Guru Granth Sahib losing their ego.

The idea of one bridge leading to the complex also indicates that there is only one way to God and that is through good actions and meditating on the name of God.

A free kitchen is run there on a daily basis where anyone can come and eat.

It can be said that there is no other building in the world that is like this both in beauty and meaning.

Guru Ram Das also created the wedding hymn that is read out when a Sikh couple are getting married.
