Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji established the town of Anandpur. The Guru gave a sacrification which no other can or has done in history and that is give his life for somene else's religion. He gave his head to protect the Hindu's religion, devotional head markings and their sacred thread.
He believed that people should have the free will to worship in the way they wish. For this reason he was martyred, trying to protect the down- trodden Hindus.
The Mughals were so ashamed that they had to cremate Guru Ji's body secretly while his severed head was taken to Anandpur Sahib for cremation.
However as the Mughals had failed to convert Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji into Islam the forced conversion of Hindu's in Kashmir was prevented.
